I'm actually mapping lots atm because I got to the point where I just couldn't program anything.

Luckily I'm getting motivated again, and I just went for a break in the country and got some nice ideas, such as how each player will have their own daemon who will follow them around and help them.

The daemon is connected to the player, so you have the same one from character creation, and the player and daemon are actually linked together, so if one dies, so does the other.

I'm going to be having a go at editing DM's AI code later to allow NPC's to follow the player around, then I'll work on how the player can use hotkeys and commands to control the daemon.

Thanks.

I've already sorted out a lot of the AI lag by only re-finding the path when needed (if the player moves) so hopefully I won't need to spend too much time optimising it.

The daemon system sounds quite a lot like Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, so I'm assuming that's where most of your inspiration comes from. I love the idea, and it opens up a large array of possibilities as far as strategic gameplay goes.

Does the player choose his or her daemon, or is it "assigned" to them, so to speak (randomly or otherwise)? Your maps are nice, and the game sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck, and hopefully this game is finished, eh? <3 lol.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of all Pullman's work, so the idea is from there.

I actually decided to add the feature when I saw an article in the newspaper for the new movie, and I thought it would be a great feature for the game.

I'm not sure if I'm going to give the player a direct choice over their daemon or simply get them to do a more roleplay style Q+A for their character which will eventually decide their daemon for them. We'll see.

As for release, the game is actually out at the moment, although only a few people have the client.

Mapping is steaming ahead and the Devinshire and Elden area's are expanding quite quickly.

Once I add the new Door system and get the new GUI working I'll probably release it to the public as a pre-alpha test, just to see if people like it.

I'm currently working on fixing all the small errors which have popped up, and getting everything I've done so far running at 100%.

Good stuff! The roleplay Q&A sounds like a great idea, and it would be so fun to see what daemons different players get through the process.

I will definitely be playing this game! ;O

Used one of my old AniméRealm templates and put up a website for now.

http://windswhisper.sylphonline.com/

I'll buy a domain when the game is ready to be released, and I'll then get someone to make a half-decent website.

There are already two videos up. One for woodcutting and one for the AI.

I'll probably release another video when I do a quest system, or perhaps for the Daemon system.

The quest will simply be Cruel and I going to rescue an NPC who is being held hostage by a bandit faction or something, but it'll show how smooth the game feels.

Just wait till you see your AI system allowing people to have all sorts of companions and daemons!

It looks amazing.

I'll video it when it's finished :P
