Have you tried Spybot Search & Destroy?

How about Ad-Aware?

I'm not sure, but I believe I had a variant of this. I tried to figure out how to destroy it, but found I couldn't on my computer. It's a keylogger (from what I've read). There is a systematic tool specifically built to destroy it, however it didn't work on my computer, I had to wipe. Iss called Systematic W32.Virut Removal Tool 1.1.2 (yes, virut, not virus). Also, conficker (and probably this virut) is spread on your network, so if you have the virus on your network, disconnect it immediately (from router, so other computers don't get infected). Most of this is based on memory. Also, be careful with any flash drives you have plugged into your computer recently. I believe it spreads with flash drives also.

Edit: I tried to find more information on gen!z in particular, but couldn't find anything besides that its high threat, a trojan, and that it is recommended that you remove.

Does it block the microsoft update page? If so, it sounds like one of the older variants of the conficker virus, A-C. D automatically updates to E, and E downloads a keylogger, then deletes itself. As I said, check if it blocks the microsoft update page, and safe mode.

Just because you fucked up and got a virus that blocks programs, doesn't mean those two programs are worthless like you think. They're the best when it comes to removing spyware, malware and the like.

If you think it's a virus, get something like AVG Free or AVAST! and try those.

I've dealt with a virus similar to this several times in the past. You can't really kill it with an antivirus program, as it tends to pop back up in a couple of hours. Avast tends to remove many system files when it tries to vault the virus, so it's a big pain in the ass to get a virus like this.

There's not much you can do aside from reformatting and installing a fresh copy of windows.

I use Spybot all the time, I also use Avast, though I never have problems with Virus' and Malware in general because I do not lack common sense.

Hey man, it can still happen. These fake-antivirus-viruses are pretty sneaky and pretty vicious. You can remove these viruses using a combination of Avast, Uniblue SpyEraser, Uniblue Registry Booster, and DriverMax.

The trick is, you have to have a backup of your drivers and your registry before your PC gets infected. :ugeek: You can then use Avast and Uniblue SpyEraser to remove the virus. Then restore your drivers with DriverMax, and restore your registry with Uniblue Registry Booster. :ugeek:

Very true, I'd be lying if I said that I haven't reformatted my computer due to virus' that I wasn't able to tame. However, with a bit of skepticism and common sense I've managed to stay away from sketchy programs, and I rarely have virus problems.

My advice: Try running your virus scanners and whatnot in safe mode. Also, it wouldn't hurt to do a disk check when you're dealing with malware, open up your command prompt and type:
Code:
chkdsk /f
It'll probably say something about not being able to unlock your C: drive or some BS when you're booted up and ask if you want to do a check on next start up. Confirm that you do. Also might wanna clean your registry and whatnot as well. I've found that with:

Defraggler
CCleaner
Spybot
Avast

I can keep my PC running pretty smooth, while rarely reformatting.

That is the problem.
Ad-aware and registry thing dont install in safe mode.
I did a check, destroyed a virus that fit the description, then did another check, nothing was found, then its still there.

I wonder why everyone keeps saying that.
Why the hell would anyone download Porn? Its stupid, thats what the internet is for. In otherwords, no one in my family has ever used that computer for porn.

Don't download things in general, without a good antivirus. Don't run things without scanning. Scan every week.

I have no protection on my computer at all. Spybot is there to scan here and there when someone else uses my computer, but that's really it. I haven't had an actual virus in years.
