I know mith did the same for robin when they where in love.

Matt is both the designer as well as the programmer.

When you're both, you have to have your priorities straight, otherwise, you produce everything in a mediocre state.

Seems like he doesn't have his priorities straight then :D

Look what happened when you tried a gui for WW. It sucked. But the coding is great, cause that's what you focus on.

I know.

But I kept on re-programming the GUI in trying to make it look better, and as soon as Rory made my new GUI, I dropped everything and programmed it in.

Some may say different, but in my opinion.

Priority list;

1. GUI
2. Game engine
3. Be leet (But wait, I already am!)

You know.

I disagree with the Graphics being the msot important to draw people to his game.

Why?
Because it's not some no name game you've never heard of.

When you go to some random game site, then yeah, the looks are a decisive factor for whether or not you want to play.

But, It's Pokemon.
Everyone already knows what it is, how it plays, and if they like it or not.

I doubt that a rabid Pokemon fan is going to ditch it just because it uses default control graphics. Very few people are going to come across it and say "well, I've never heard of this Pokemon thing before!"

As with any fan game, there are a shit load of people that will play it JUST because it's there. They just want the immersion. As long as they can do all the crap they can in an offline pokemon game, they'll want to play it, even if if it was in fucking black and white.

With games based on something this popular, you don't need to attract players really. It's basically a "you like it, or you don't" kind of thing, and 90% of the time, you know it before taking a look at the game.

If I were playing an online pokemon game, I would want the GUI to be as similar as possible to the normal Pokemon GUI. Of course, it would have to be somewhat different because it's online, and would need a chat box and the like. THat could flawlessly be integrated, through the use of a window at the bottom for global, the cell phone feature for long distance PMs (and could give each person a unique number that you could store an addressbook (that you could then purchase an upgrade to make it bigger ;D), a chat similar to when you talk to an NPC for local PMs, and chat boxes for local messages.

Could even make a cell phone subscription plan, using in-game money, so not everyone had a cell phone. Would make things interesting.

Well.

Atleast I got some feedback.

Better than the original "This game is hideous."

I'll indeed work on the GUI abit more. But, Perfekt and Spodi are right on the money.

When it comes down to it, I toss the GUI and just get it functional. I'll grab a better GUI later. And enhance some of the features on it.

Right now, players type in / commands for everything. xD

So, yeah. I'll work on that.

Thanks guys! I'll be sure to post a cleaner version the next time I get screenshots out.

But atleast you understand the gist of the coding I've done. That's all this post was here to accomplish.

My game doesn't even have a GUI (except for if you count the menu as one). It'd just be a waste of time to make one until I need one and know what I want to do with it.

but that's the thing :P You're supposed to know what to do with it early on.

Not exactly - depends on what you're doing. It was a bit misleading when I said "my game" - its more of just the engine. All I know I am doing is making a platformer. The rest will be decided when I run out of stuff to do.

You've not played Diamond or Pearl before, have you?

Cause if you have, all those graphics are STRAIGHT rips from there...

And though you were ignorant to the fact that these are DP, I'm PRETTY sure you coulda figured out that this was sorta Pokemon-y, and done a little search before posting "Make it look like Pokemon"
