What I need are some pointers on how to improve this, or if its epic phail, simply start over from scratch.

It's nice, my only suggestion is to work on the buttons a bit more. Maybe make the edges blended in more? |

Update: Decided to go in a sort of new direction.  I made it smaller, added a border and some other small edits. Is it better? EDIT: Re-uploaded on ImageShack because of quality loss. |
